A Guide to the Language of Soul Braids
This lexicon offers a shared vocabulary for exploring the language of continuing bonds. Rather than presenting final conclusions, these definitions invite curiosity, reflection, and dialogue. They provide a conceptual guide to the ideas explored throughout Soul Braids.
BURADA
Turkish for “here.” A word that arrived through a lucid dream with Harley. It became a reminder that a beloved may be experienced as present in relationship, here and now.
CONTINUING BONDS
The established psychological understanding that maintaining an ongoing relationship with a deceased loved one can be healthy and adaptive. Soul Braids builds upon this foundation by exploring how continuing relationships may organize experience through relational coherence, synchronization, recognition, and emergent patterns.
COUPLED OSCILLATORS
A concept from systems science describing how two interacting systems can naturally synchronize over time. Within Soul Braids, coupled oscillators provide one model for understanding how continuing relationships may remain dynamically coordinated through repeated interaction, rhythm, attention, and attunement.
DREAMSPACE
A naturally occurring state of consciousness most commonly entered through sleep, where the ordinary boundaries of waking awareness become more fluid. Dreams range from ordinary processing to profoundly symbolic, healing, creative, and lucid experiences. As we integrate new understanding, recurring dream patterns often change, reflecting our ongoing growth. Within Soul Braids, dreamspace is explored as a state in which continuing relationships may become more readily experienced through recognition, symbolism, and shared presence. Whether understood psychologically, spiritually, or as an expression of relational coherence, dreamspace invites curiosity, discernment, and wonder.
EMERGENCE
A property that arises through relationship rather than existing within any single participant. In systems theory, emergence describes how new patterns, behaviors, or capacities arise through interaction itself. In Soul Braids, emergence refers to the ongoing creative potential of a continuing relationship. A Soul Braid is not simply remembered; it continues to generate new understanding, insight, creativity, recognition, and meaning. Rather than preserving the past, the relationship continues to participate in what is becoming.
LIVING RELATIONAL ARCHITECTURE
The stable yet evolving relational structure that develops through sustained trust, presence, and devotion. Rather than existing solely within either participant, the architecture emerges between them as a coherent relational pattern capable of generating new understanding, recognition, creativity, and growth as the relationship continues to unfold.
THE FIELD
Also known as: the Field of All That Is, the Zero-Point Field. Within Soul Braids, the Field refers to the underlying relational fabric from which connection, meaning, and possibility emerge. Rather than empty space, it is understood as a living context in which relationships unfold and coherent patterns arise. Modern physics has increasingly shifted our understanding of reality away from a universe composed only of isolated objects and toward one described by fields, probability, and relationship. Thinkers such as Einstein and Infeld, Max Planck, and contemporary researchers exploring quantum fields have all contributed to this evolving picture in different ways. While their work does not establish Soul Braids, it offers a scientific landscape in which relational models of reality can be meaningfully explored. Within Soul Braids, the Field is not viewed as something our loved ones “go to.” It is the ever-present context in which love, consciousness, and relationship continue to unfold.
FREQUENCY SPIRAL
Research on frequency spirals inspired the Soul Braid Hypothesis by showing that interacting systems can spontaneously organize into stable, emergent patterns that belong to the relationship itself rather than to either individual system.
THE GOLD
The personal term Harley and Jasmine use for the state or realm in which Harley is experienced following his physical death – a symbol of home, coherence, and continuing relationship.
LIGHT
The experiential expression of love made visible through dreams, synchronicities, symbols, insight, and moments of profound recognition.
LOVE
Within Soul Braids, love is understood as the foundational intelligence that gives rise to coherent, continuing relationships. It is the living energy from which relational architecture emerges.
LIMINAL
Threshold states – such as meditation, waking, falling asleep, or profound stillness – where ordinary cognitive filters soften and experiences of continuing relationship may become more readily perceived.
PINGS
Meaningful words, symbols, or events that seem to arrive with unusual precision and personal relevance, often inviting recognition rather than explanation.
PORCHLIGHTS
Precognitive signs or symbolic breadcrumbs that arrive before their fuller meaning becomes clear. Often subtle and easily overlooked, Porchlights gently illuminate the path ahead by inviting attention. Their significance is frequently recognized only in retrospect, when later experiences reveal how they were preparing the way.
RECOGNITION
The experience of knowing a beloved’s presence through their unique relational tone rather than through physical perception alone. Recognition differs from memory in that it feels immediate, participatory, and relational rather than merely reflective.
RESONANCE
When two things share a compatible frequency, they naturally begin to respond to one another. In physics, this phenomenon is known as resonance. Within Soul Braids, resonance offers one way of understanding how continuing relationships may become more perceptible through attunement rather than effort. When relational tones align, recognition, synchronicity, creativity, and meaning often become more
readily experienced. Resonance does not create the relationship – it reveals it.
SOUL BRAID
A living relational architecture that emerges through sustained trust, presence, and devotion. More than a continuing bond, a Soul Braid is an emergent relationship capable of generating new recognition, meaning, creativity, and growth as the relationship continues to unfold.
SOURCE
The living creative intelligence underlying existence. Within Soul Braids, Source is understood as the ground from which love, consciousness, and relationship emerge.
SOVEREIGNTY
The recognition that each person remains the primary authority on the meaning of their own experience. Soul Braids encourages discernment, humility, and personal responsibility.
THE SPIRAL
One of nature’s most persistent patterns of organization, growth, and transformation. Across the physical world, spiral structures appear wherever energy is organized, distributed, and renewed – from galaxies and hurricanes to seashells, sunflowers, DNA, and vortices. Rather than simply repeating itself, a spiral returns while simultaneously moving forward, preserving what came before while allowing something new to emerge.
Within human experience, the Spiral reflects the rhythm of growth. We revisit familiar places, relationships, and questions, yet each return carries the possibility of deeper understanding, greater coherence, and expanded awareness. Healing rarely unfolds in a straight line; it moves in spirals. Within Soul Braids, the Spiral describes the living movement of continuing relationships. Love does not remain fixed in memory but continues to deepen through cycles of recognition, emergence, and renewed becoming. Every return offers the opportunity for new meaning, allowing the relationship itself to continue participating in who we are becoming.
SYNCHRONICITIES (FIELD WINKS)
Meaningful coincidences in which two or more events appear connected through significance rather than obvious cause and effect. The term synchronicity was introduced by Carl Jung to describe acausal events whose timing and symbolism carry profound personal meaning. For some, these experiences feel like gentle invitations to pay attention. For others, they arrive with such precision, repetition, and timely orchestration that they become nearly impossible to ignore. What distinguishes a synchronicity is often not the improbability of a single event, but the coherence of many events arriving together in ways that create unmistakable meaning. Within Soul Braids, synchronicities are understood as moments of relational coherence – times when inner experience and outer events appear to align in ways that invite recognition rather than explanation. Some
experience them as life itself participating in a conversation through symbols, timing, and meaningful convergence. Others understand them psychologically as the mind’s remarkable capacity to perceive meaningful patterns. Soul Braids welcomes both perspectives while encouraging curiosity, discernment, and wonder. Like resonance, synchronicities do not create the relationship – they reveal patterns that may already be present.
TONE
The unique relational signature through which a beloved is recognized across time, form, and changing circumstances.
TRUST • PRESENCE • DEVOTION
The three foundational elements of love’s architecture. Trust establishes relational stability. Presence maintains coherent connection. Devotion sustains focused attention over time until a living relational architecture emerges.
