Love Is Home
A Soul Braid is the continuing relational architecture love creates through trust, presence, and devotion.
The second I laid eyes on the four-week-old kitten I named Harley, it felt like home. Like I was remembering my own heart. When Harley left his body, I thought I’d lose that home.
Instead we built a new one.
That realization became the beginning of Soul Braids—the living architecture of continuing relationship.
Soul Braids explores the limitless nature of unconditional love and what becomes possible when relationship itself is no longer limited by conditions.
It’s about discovering that home is where we feel the deepest love and connection — and that when a relationship is woven deeply enough into our lives, it becomes a living architecture that we can still call home, even when the house changes.
How Bonds Continue...
Presence, trust, and devotion have been honored across cultures for thousands of years because they embody the qualities that spiritual traditions recognize as essential for lasting love. Modern science is beginning to describe these same qualities in terms of coherence: a stable, self-reinforcing pattern of connection from which enduring relational structures can emerge.
In the language of Soul Braids, that enduring relational structure is what I call the living architecture of love.
As coherence grows, love deepens, relationships flourish, and home becomes something we no longer seek, but recognize.
Presence
Wholehearted availability.
Choosing to remain open beyond conditions.
Trust
Knowing love is the foundation.
The inner safety that allows relational coherence to form.
Devotion
Sustained loving attention.
The ongoing choice to nurture and deepen your bond.
The Golden Spiral Between My Feet
One ordinary moment that changed the questions I was asking.
About a year after Harley’s passing. I was standing on a sidewalk talking with a friend about the amazing synchronicities that kept showing up around our continuing relationship.
I mentioned the spiral —how it seemed to weave throgh so many of the experiences I was having with Harley.
Mid-conversation, I happened to glance down. Perfectly centered between my fect lay a small golden metal spiral. I laughed. Took a photo. Sent it to my friend. Then picked it up and carried it home.
At some point, I stopped asking. "Is this happening?" and started asking. "How does this happen?"
The spiral isn’t just one of nature’s most beautiful patterns. It appears in galaxies, hurricanes, seashells, sunflowers, our DNA, and even in the self-organizing patterns that emerge in nature and relationships alike.
Beyond Either/Or
What if reality isn't built on separation, but relationship?
Much of our world is built on either/or thinking. Alive or dead.
Here or gone. Real or imagined.
But love has never operated that way.
The entire matrix of consensus reality is built on the assumption that things are either one thing OR another. The spell of separation encoded into the very architecture of how we compute reality.
But love has never operated in binary.
Your mirror neurons, your reticular activating system, your meaning-making biology -these are often used as the evidence that nothing more exists. That what you’re feeling is just grief.
Just pattern recognition. Just the brain doing what brains do.
WHO DESIGNED THESE SYSTEMS?
What if they aren’t the reason to dismiss the experience—-but the very technology deligned to RECEIVE it? What it we were built-specifcally. precisely, intentionally with these biological interfaces so that love could find us across every boundary. including death?
When you’re brave enough to open the mind to socing both, it becomes easy to see how the body supports our ability to percene the unscen and make meaning across dimensions. Mirror neurons that fire whether you’re touching or imagining touch. A reticolar activating system that filters reality based on what you’re attuned to. A heart field sooox strenger magnetic than the brain, designed to entrain with other hearts–including ones no longer in body.
Much of our understanding of reality has been shaped by either/or thinking. The entire matrix of consensus reality is built on the assumption that things are either one thing OR another.
Alive or dead. Here or gone. Real or imagined.
Relationship allows us to see beyond the binary into a world of inclusion.
It doesn’t erase distinctions. It expands them, allowing seemingly opposite truths to exist together without diminishing either one.
You can be scientific and still recognize the mysterious.
You can ache from loss and still be filled.
You can grieve and still be in communion.
You can feel lost and still know your way home.
When we’re brave enough to open our minds to both/and, we begin to see how beautifully the body supports our capacity to perceive what isn’t immediately visible, recognize subtle forms of connection, and make meaning from experiences that go beyond conventional beliefs.
What if our biology is relational?
What if the very biology we often use to explain these experiences away is actually part of how we recognize them?
Some scientists suggest our brains evolved to help us find meaning, recognize patterns, and navigate relationships. What if those same biological systems also make us exquisitely capable of perceiving love in ways we’ve barely begun to understand?
Mirror neurons reveal a nervous system built for empathy, responding not only to what we physically do, but also to what we witness and vividly imagine.
Our reticular activating system continually filters reality according to what we’ve learned is meaningful, shaping what enters our conscious awareness.
Even the heart is profoundly relational, generating a measurable electromagnetic field that continually interacts with the people around us.
Perhaps these aren’t reasons to dismiss our experiences. Perhaps they’re part of the remarkable biology through which relationship is recognized.
